Nicolas berzi

Nicolas Berzi is an author, director, producer, and doctor of transdisciplinary studies and new stage technologies.

He initiates, directs, and supports projects and productions in stage creation, technological innovation, and cultural development. He works as a director, conceptor, advisor, consultant, and speaker for artistic companies, university research groups, and cultural organizations. His approach is based on a unique multidisciplinary background, both in Quebec and internationally.

Nicolas Berzi is an artist and innovator, specialized facilitator and speaker, consultant and counsellor in live performance and new technologies. For over twenty years, he has been working at the intersection of the performing arts, multidisciplinary stage creation, dramaturgy, and the integration of new technologies.

 

With a PhD in arts and technology since 2020 and co-founder of Studio Sit in 2021, he has initiated numerous large-scale projects aimed at supporting the performing arts community through a 360-degree support program, developing and offering residencies, specialized training, co-productions, and grants.

Since 2009, Nicolas Berzi has been developing an innovative, cross-disciplinary approach to stage performance. In 2013, he founded the creative company Artiste Inconnu, where he serves as artistic and general director.

 

He has written, adapted, directed, and produced a dozen stage works combining theater, dance, live music, electroacoustic processing, videomapping, and tracking, and is constantly funding laboratories meant to experiment with new hybrid stage forms, continually pushing the boundaries of live performance.

Nicolas Berzi specializes in transdisciplinary, technological, and innovative methodologies and work processes in writing, directing, multimedia design, and production.

 

During his doctoral studies, he developed a research-creation methodology for performing artists, following which he developed a series of specialized training courses in digital integration, digital dramaturgy, digital content production, and digital management and triggering of stage media.

 

To ensure the transfer of knowledge and skills, he also gives numerous lectures and live demonstrations, both in Quebec and around the world. He has also been involved in the digital committee of the Conseil Québécois du Théâtre since 2022.

Since Studio Sit was founded in 2021, Nicolas Berzi has co-developed innovative audiovisual production models with Armando Menicacci and numerous other partners and collaborators.

 

He has produced numerous live and recorded webcasts with Danse Danse and Tangente, to name just a few major broadcasters. He has also worked as a co-producer on around 100 provincial, national, and international projects, in addition to co-writing and co-directing Show Me the Exit, a dance film about burnout, with Montreal choreographer Virginie Brunelle.

Author, dramaturgical counselor, and researcher in philosophical aesthetics and research-creation, Nicolas Berzi has written numerous plays that address issues of marginality while developing new methods of transdisciplinary staging notation. His research focuses on issues of the unplayable and dissonant art.
