Mythomania is a stage production that was developed with the desire to examine the current changes in our romantic relationships in the age of online dating and socializing, and the new mythomaniacal behaviors that result from this.
Our research led us to the concept of mythomania, a pathological compulsion to lie that is exacerbated today by virtual reality, but which is primarily a harmless and formative psychological phenomenon in young children.
Young children are all mythomaniacs, which allows them to fabricate dreams, stimulate their learning, and reinforce their grasp of reality, which may explain their powerful attraction to storytelling.
This led us to undertake dramaturgical, musical, and scenographic research on the ways in which we cultivate self-deception about love, both in stories and in our private lives, in order to extract narrative and artistic mechanisms that can be transposed onto the stage.
Mythomania is structured around a simple cubic plywood device in order to explore the various ways of telling stories about love. Through a progressive decomposition and dissemination of the cube’s faces in space, Mythomania explores the gradual screenification of our stories and experiences of love.
“After Peep Show and Héroïne(s), Mythomania impresses with its ambition, the richness of its subject matter, and its highly relevant sound and visual design. We leave La Chapelle with our heads full of questions.”
