Héroïne(s)

2015

Three female heroin addicts lie in their respective coffins, dead from an overdose. This death, whether foretold or already happened, opens up a fragmented universe that unfolds in several stages.

The scene, taking on the appearance of the different territories in which they are immersed, subjected by their addiction that draws them to each other, reveals above all their respective loneliness, through unbridled humor and a cynical view of the world.

Heroine(s) addresses the different stages of consumption, transposed through radical performative and multimedia experiences.

The creative challenge here was considerable: to take the audience on a sensory journey through all the stages of heroin use and addiction, from the “flash” of the first injection to overdose, through states of withdrawal, ecstasy, and detoxification.

To greet our heroin addicts and our live video projections, we “plywooded” the entire theater using two tons of presswood to reconfigure the floor, creating a steep slope toward the back of the stage and a huge panoramic screen plastered on the back wall. In this way, we attempt to recreate an immersive Italian-style theatricality: a total audiovisual theatrical scene that promotes an intensified sensory experience.

“Through this multimedia stage production and its quest to engage its audience, the work takes on the appearance of Theater of Cruelty.

It confronts us with our discomfort and the tragic nature of our powerlessness to reach out to these lost souls struggling with their addiction.”
